The oldest Jewish
Congregation in Central Illinois, was founded in 1858. Known as
the “Springfield Hebrew Congregation” services originally
were conducted in rented quarters. On Sept. 10, 1876, the first
Jewish House of Worship in Springfield was dedicated on property
located on North Fifth Street. In 1917, the building on the present
site was completed and dedicated, and a new charter was procured
and the official name of the Congregation became Temple B'rith Sholom.
TBS provides opportunities at every age level in the community's
Religious School for students to express themselves religiously
by leading their own services. A four-year program of Hebrew instruction
is also provided for grades 3-6 to prepare our children to understand
basic Hebrew.
B'rith Sholom's services are known throughout the community for
their beauty, their dignity, their music, and their inspiration. |
